This blog post will focus on photos to show the surgical process and the progression of the scar.

I discovered the need for surgery around May 2018, and the surgery was performed in early September 2018. The current status of the scar is as of April 2020. Please keep this in mind while reading the post. Before the surgery, a clean and bright appearance.
Before the surgery, I looked bright. It felt like taking a break from work and enjoying some rest. And... the long-awaited surgery. The surgery itself is very short. It takes about 30 minutes, approximately?
Since it's a neck surgery, general anesthesia is administered. If you have had a colonoscopy or gastroscopy, the feeling of general anesthesia is similar, so don't be too afraid. However, when you wake up from general anesthesia, you may experience discomfort and difficulty with the gas released. It was quite unpleasant and challenging for me. sigh
Now, here's the appearance right after the surgery.
I'll say it again, for those who are sensitive or have a weak stomach, please refrain from scrolling back. I was in a dazed state. My face was wrapped up to the point where even my forehead was covered, and you can see the blood pouch. To prevent blood from pooling inside the neck, the blood pouch is applied... They were actually removing blood.
Once the blood pouch and tube were removed, the wound wasn't too significant. Here's how it looks after discharge. You have to stay with the band like that for 1-2 weeks. The surgery itself was easy, but the aftermath was a bit challenging. I had to keep the blood pouch on, and I couldn't tilt my neck backward freely (as it could tear).
After being discharged, I had to wear a band similar to the one in the last photo. I couldn't even remove the white band since there was a risk of infection. If you're a working professional, consider taking a week-long vacation.
Initially, I was worried about the scar. Don't all wounds appear red when they're torn? sigh. In the beginning, the hospital provided a scar prevention band. It was the same band that pregnant women use after a cesarean section. However, the transparent band easily fell off, was challenging to manage, and above all, it was expensive. sigh It was really expensive.
So, I chose Dermatics Ultra as a scar prevention measure. (This is not an advertisement. It's a review based on my personal experience and money.)
The result was great
I didn't have to worry about when the band would come off, and I could easily apply it in the morning and evening. It took a bit more time, but I could clearly feel its effectiveness. (I highly recommend Dermatics Ultra.)
And for those who might be curious, how did the scar turn out? I'm posting a photo of the scar taken 1 year and 7 months after the surgery. It's almost invisible. If you look closely, you can see a faint white line above the Adam's apple.
This is a photo taken in normal circumstances. Unless it's a close-up shot, you can't tell at all. So, what do you think? If you were worried about the scar, time is the best remedy, so don't worry too much. Personally, I highly recommend Dermatics Ultra. I used 1.5 of the 15g tubes. I diligently applied it in the beginning, but afterward, I didn't pay much attention. Unless you look closely, you can't tell, and even if you do, it appears as a white thread-like line.
So, don't be afraid.
If you have a thyroid cyst (hyoid cyst) and want to have it removed, you can visit an ENT clinic and undergo an ultrasound examination (at a larger hospital) and have the surgery. It's a simple surgery, and the scar is barely noticeable. Of course, there will be a period after the surgery where you feel tightness in your neck, but surprisingly, neck wrinkles appear quickly, so don't worry too much.
