Thyroid thyroglossal duct cyst Surgery Review - 1, find problem

Thyroid thyroglossal duct cyst Surgery Review

It was around May 2018 when it happened. While touching my Adam's apple (yes, I'm a male), I felt something strange about it.

What could it be...?

There was a hard lump on my Adam's apple, and right next to it, there was a soft lump. Entering my late thirties, this was the first time I had such an experience. Did I have such a large lump without even realizing it? I couldn't believe it, but with an uneasy and anxious heart, I visited a local ENT clinic.

Although it was a place that many people visited in the neighborhood, it seemed that cases like mine, with such a lump on the neck, were rare. After examining the lump, the doctor suggested doing an ultrasound. Heart pounding,

The ultrasound results indicated the possibility of a cyst or a fluid-filled lump, and I was informed that it would be difficult to treat it at a local hospital.

How could they perform surgery on my neck at a local hospital? sigh

If you've seen the TV show "Game of Thrones," you would understand that putting a knife to your neck is a matter of life and death. sigh (Let's be careful). During my days of traveling without even knowing the existence of the cyst, I had two lumps on my Adam's apple.

So, I took my medical records and went to a larger hospital where I underwent tests such as CT scans and ultrasounds. The diagnosis I received was "Thyroid Cyst (Hyoid) Cyst."Oh nooo... sigh. Heart pounding...

Was this a serious problem? At that moment, the doctor said, "It's nothing to worry about."

To briefly explain the cause:

The thyroid gland starts at the top of the neck during childhood and moves down. The thyroid gland, as we know it, is located near the middle of the collarbone. During the thyroid gland's descent from the top to the bottom of the neck, there is an area near the hyoid bone where the hole is not fully closed.

The accumulation of fluid and the formation of a lump occur in the less closed area due to the movement of the thyroid gland. The size of that lump on my neck had been gathering energy for over 30 years, and I had been living without even realizing it until my mid-forties.

I decided to undergo surgery. The doctor said that in such cases, surgery was not necessary, and it could be left as it is unless it becomes a cosmetic issue or grows large enough to cause discomfort. But who would... want to live with a lump on their neck? sigh

I decided to proceed with the surgery. Here is some information about the surgery and major progress: Surgery name: thyroglossal duct cyst using the cyst-wrapping technique The surgery involves removing the cyst by dissecting the neck area under general anesthesia. The surgery takes only 30 minutes, and there is a possibility of recurrence.

There is a possibility of scarring.
